How to make salmon patties – Easy recipe!

These salmon patties are a delicious treat. They are tender and flaky but also beyond tasty. And all this, combined with their crispy edges, makes them such a popular dish.

Making salmon patties is a great way to use leftover salmon, and buying salmon to prepare them is also worthy because these treats are not only reserved for your perfect Friday dinner. You can serve them as an appetizer at any gathering.

How to prepare salmon patties

The first and most important thing to consider when planning on preparing these patties is that it is always a good idea to pay attention to the quality of the canned salmon you are buying. Furthermore, we strongly recommend using canned salmon to prepare this recipe. Here are a few reasons why we prefer canned salmon over fresh salmon:

  • First, we must mention that you shouldn’t worry about using canned salmon because it is packed with all the same nutrients as fresh salmon so that you won’t be missing out on anything.
  • You won’t have to make a special trip to the seafood counter. You have easy access to canned salmon because it is available at any grocery store.
  • Another great thing about canned salmon is that it is not as expensive as fresh salmon.
  • Lastly, it is more convenient to use it as part of this recipe because it saves you cooking the salmon before adding it to the patty mixture. There is no need to cook canned salmon separately, saving you both time and effort.

How to flavor salmon patties

This recipe is a bit different than the standard old-fashioned salmon patty recipe. Instead, the patties you will be making will have a creamy interior and a crispy exterior with just a little spice.

Since the recipe recommends using canned salmon, you need to add a bit more ingredients and spice it up to achieve a fresh taste.

To make all this possible, you will need:

  • Some Greek yogurt (for the creamy interior texture)
  • Cayenne, garlic, and onion powder (to get a Southern flare)
  • White vinegar and Dijon mustard (to punch your patties)
  • Bread crumbs (to bind the patties)

How to serve salmon patties

Once you finished preparing the patties, you may be wondering what’s the best way to serve them. Luckily, you have two options to choose from:

  • Option one is serving them on their own and putting some green salad and Greek yogurt on the side.
  • Option two is serving them on a bun, meaning you will be adding red onions, sliced tomatoes, and just a bit of Greek yogurt and tartar sauce.

How to store and reheat salmon patties

Salmon patties freeze well. Therefore you can put them in the fridge without worrying about them getting ruined.

  • To store them, wrap each patty and then put them together in an air-tight container. Remember, uncooked salmon patties mustn’t be kept in the fridge for more than one day.
  • On the other hand, cooked salmon patties can stay in the fridge for an extra day.
  • To reheat the patties, take a skillet, apply just a light layer of oil on it, and put it on the stove.
  • Next, put the patties in the skillet, splash some water in, and cover it. This will help the patties team, but at the same time, prevent them from drying- out.
  • You can prepare a larger patch of patties and store them in the freezer. Cooked patties can last for up to 3 weeks in the freezer. When you decide to them out, leave them in the fridge to thaw before reheating them.
